"Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" Community Tour

Date: Wednesday, September 10, 2025 1:00-2:00 PM EST
Location: Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY

Join Black Exhale and Intelligent Mischief for an exclusive guided Community Tour of "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style"—the exhibition that inspired the 2025 Met Gala. Guest curated by Monica Miller, this groundbreaking show explores 300 years of Black dandyism as resistance and cultural innovation.

This isn't just a museum tour—it's a ritual. A journey from being "fashioned" through ownership to fashioning ourselves through freedom. When Intelligent Mischief creates social dream spaces and Black Exhale creates sanctuary for collective healing, something powerful emerges in the intersection.

Through over 200 artifacts spanning three centuries, we'll witness:

  • Olaudah Equiano's original 1789 autobiography and the "superfine" clothes he purchased to celebrate his freedom

  • Contemporary works by Virgil Abloh, Grace Wales Bonner, Telfar, and Dapper Dan

  • Prince's stage wear that expanded Black masculinity to include beauty

  • Historical artifacts from Miles Davis and André Leon Talley

  • The Black Panther Party beret as symbol of resistance and cool nonconformity

  • Iconic photography including "A Great Day in Harlem" (1958) and "A Great Day in Hip Hop" (1998)

This private community tour creates sanctuary space for collective witnessing of how Black people have used fashion to sartorially transform identity and embody possibilities.

Registration: RSVP at join.blackexhale.org/superfine
Please note: This is a private tour on a non-public museum day, limited to 25 participants. Admittance permitted only for those who RSVP.
